- The Gorges du Tarn and the Grands Causses
The Gorges du Tarn are a canyon carved out by the river Tarn between the Causse Méjean and the Causse de Sauveterre.
Down below, along the river, you’ll find villages to visit such as Le Rozier, Les Vignes, La Malène, Saint-Chély du Tarn and Sainte-Enimie… You can also take part in a wide range of outdoor activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddling, climbing, via ferrata…
Higher up, on the causses, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the caussenard villages, visit the various sites (farms, caves, avens…) and admire the many panoramic views from the corniches.
Less well-knownnearby are the Gorges de la Jonte, a canyon carved out by the Jonte between the Causse Méjean and the Causse Noir, and the Gorges de la Dourbie, a canyon carved out by the Dourbie between the Causse Noir and the Causse du Larzac.
As you can see, this is a limestone region of gorges and causses!
Did you know? There are no water-based activities in the Gorges de la Jonte– the water level is too low!
