This year, for the first time, I took part in the détours du Monde festival in the picturesque village ofChanac. This renowned festival in France is the ideal event for culture lovers and discovery enthusiasts like me! Ahead for the festival: on the program: conferences, concerts, screenings, walks…

Détours du Monde
Once I arrived at the festival, I met an organizer who explained the broad outlines of the Festival. Every year, the village of Chanac lives for 3 days to the rhythm of the Détour du Monde festival. This festival is a must for lovers of world and contemporary music in Lozère. She also explains its aims: to meet others, welcome them as they are, and share with them a moment of their existence in order to understand the richness of cultural diversity… It’s in this spirit that the festival welcomes thousands of visitors every year, as I have for several years now… and that’s why it offers them a rich and electric program throughout the day: conferences, screenings, “sensitive” walks… many speakers are mobilized to share their thoughts through the arts in all their forms.
The“rumeurs du monde” radio station is run by a team of local journalists from local and regional community radio stations, who report on the festival atmosphere and introduce us to the artists performing that evening. A wonderful discovery!
Radio
Rumeurs du Monde
Even before arriving at the heart of the festival, at the foot of the Donjon where the festival takes place, I get into the mood by listening to the ” Rumeurs du Monde ” radio station specially broadcast to Chanac and the surrounding area for the duration of the festivities. As someone from Lozère who is used to listening to the radio, I found the idea brilliant and original, and it enabled me to discover many artists and even the local radio hosts!

The World Market
I then went to the Place du Plo, where a world market was set up next to the refreshment stands. This craft and gastronomic market brings together treasures from the four corners of the globe. Nearly forty exhibitors come together every year in the heart of the village: a unique opportunity in Lozère to discover exotic flavors from here and elsewhere, and remarkable crafts. I was able to stock up on many local and international products!
Never-before-seen artists
I arrive in front of a Solo d’Artiste before the conference
Strolling through the narrow streets of the village, I was lucky enough to come across an “ artist’s solo ” and experience a moment I’ll never forget: attending an intimate concert with artists from far and wide, in the heart of exceptional heritage sites… it’s not every day! These small, improvised concerts are an opportunity to experience an intimate moment with musicians happy to share their art and bring their culture to life around the world. I continue with an outdoor lecture/debate…
The moment I’ve been waiting for…
The Concerts
Finally, the moment I’d been waiting for since my arrival at the festival: the start of the concerts on the main stage! Electric and cutting-edge, the performances follow one another to the delight of festival-goers. As the evening progressed, the Donjon, which dominates the site, was lit up in the colors of the festival. Time seemed to stand still, and it was with sadness that I left for the last concert… No doubt I’ll be back next year! I really enjoyed this festival, and it enabled me to meet many people from near and far, just like the artists who came to represent their music from the 4 corners of the world… A real “coup de coeur”!
