des Gorges du Tarn

Perched on their rocky spurs, these medieval castles have survived the ravages of war, pillage and time to offer us poignant testimonies. Some, like Peyrelade, are open to the public, while many, like Blanquefort and Dolan, have only vestiges left…

#1

Château de la Caze

Not open to visitors, Château de la Caze is a hotel-restaurant. You can only see it from the Gorges du Tarn road between La Malène and St-Chély-du-Tarn, or from the river by canoe…

#2

Blanquefort castle

Blanquefort castle towers over the village of Les Vignes. Hidden in the cliffs of the Gorges du Tarn, it’s hard to see it from its rocky promontory… This castle was never a seigneurial residence, but merely a watchtower.

#3

Château de Dolan

Discover Château de Dolan: located on the road from Saint-Rome-de-Dolan to Les Vignes, its ruins are set on a platform overlooking the Tarn between two ravines.

#4

Peyrelade Castle

Château de Peyrelade was one of the most important fortresses in Rouergue (Aveyron) in the Middle Ages. From the top of its natural dungeon rock, it controlled the Tarn valley and the entrance to the Gorges du Tarn, extending its influence to the borders of Gévaudan (Lozère), Languedoc and Sévéragais… A must-see in the Gorges du Tarn.
