The Roc des Hourtous, accessible from La Malène or Les Vignes, offers an imposing view of the Gorges du Tarn, with a plunging view of the Détroits. At the top of the cliffs, just 100 metres separate the Causse Méjean from the Causse de Sauveterre. It was here, between the Roc de la Truque and the Roc des Hourtous, that the famous tightrope walker Henry’s crossed the Gorges du Tarn on a tightrope in 1990. The grandiose view isn’t the only attraction here: vultures make the cliffs their home, and at night the Roc des Hourtous becomes their dormitory.
In spring, it’s an ideal spot for spotting orchids.

Breathtaking views
The view is breathtaking: the Roc des Hourtous towers almost 500 metres above the Tarn, and the view extends from the Cirque des Baumes to the hamlet of La Croze, one of the most beautiful parts of the Gorges du Tarn. Above, on the left, you can see Saint-Georges de Lévéjac and the Point Sublime overlooking the Cirque des Baumes. In summer, you can even see the boats and canoes plying the Détroits.
