Discover the know-how and traditions of the Grands Causses
Since the dawn of time, people have practicedagropastoralism here, and it’s around sheep farming that the typical and endearing architecture of the Causses has developed. Along the way, you’ll be able to admire the splendid slate-roofed farmhouses that bear witness, some of them several hundred years old, to man’s adaptation to this hostile land. This particular way of life is recounted at the Ferme Caussenarde d’Autrefois, an eco-museum located on the Causse Méjean, which puts into perspective the agropastoralism of yesterday and today.
Mills on the Grands Causses
Imagine that, despite the harsh living conditions on the Grands Causses, the population continued to grow until the 19th century! In the 17th and 18th centuries, numerous windmills were built on the Causse Méjean, including the famous Moulin de la Borie, now fully restored and open to visitors.
