The Causses and Cévennes are classified by UNESCO as a “cultural landscape of Mediterranean agropastoralism”. This territory is representative of the relationship between the pastoral system and the natural environment in which it is practiced. Indeed, the landscapes of the Grands Causses have been shaped by this practice for over 3,000 years. With its remarkable vitality throughout the centuries, this area is an example for similar types of territory around the world.
