Le Massegros

Discover Le Massegros, one of the largest villages on the Causse de Sauveterre. Situated close to the Gorges du Tarn, the village is a fine example of a Causse village, thanks to its heritage and agricultural environment. The village is home to the world’s largest dairy (Lactalis), which processes sheep’s milk and produces Salakis.

Le Massegros

A land of livestock

Standing proudly at the entrance to the village, Gédéon, Lou Pastre du Massegros welcomes you to the Gorges du Tarn and Grands Causses region. A land of livestock breeding and agriculture, Massegros is home to numerous farms focused primarily on sheep production, and has the distinction of having several dairies on its territory. Salakis, Lou Pérac, Toison d’Oc, Bleu du Massegros and Tome de Mijoule: no fewer than 20 different cheeses are produced in the Massegros. Alongside this agricultural tradition, Massegros has made tourism one of its priorities. Ideally located just a stone’s throw from the Gorges du Tarn and in the heart of the Causse de Sauveterre, you can enjoy all kinds of outdooractivities: hiking, cycling (road or mountain), canoeing, stand-up paddling, rafting, climbing, via ferrata…
