A visit to the village of Chanac is rich in history, and its tower is the perfect symbol of this. Once the summer residence of the bishops of Mende, the château, of which the tower is a vestige, enjoyed a period of splendor in the 17th century, notably with Monseigneur de Piencourt. Enlarged and embellished, it included no less than thirty-eight apartments. Water was drawn from the Bernades stream and channeled through an ingenious system of Bourneaux (terracotta pipes).
