The Gorges du Tarnare renowned for their unique natural scenery. From the arid Causses to the deep valleys, you’re surrounded by the grandiose. Enjoy this unspoilt wilderness on foot or on the water. Take a dip in the emerald waters at the foot of majestic cliffs over 500 metres high. You’ll be amazed by the unusual troglodyte villages perched on the cliffs…
As you float along, you’ll never cease to beamazed and thrilled. Here, adventure in total freedom is experienced on a grand scale! These great wild spaces are home to exceptional biodiversity, recognized by the Parc national des Cévennes, the Parc naturel régional des Grands Causses and the Causses and Cévennes region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover 500 animal species and 2,000 plant species. Listen, observe, learn and share as you go.

More details- Whether you’re with family, friends, a couple or on your own, make the most of the village of Les Vignes, in the heart of the Gorges du Tarn, when you arrive at the end of the day! Spend a relaxing moment by the water. You can also take part in a treasure hunt / geocaching to discover the village and take a walk to the Grotte de l’Hironcel using the map provided by your accommodation provider.
- The village des Vignes’ bonus: a clever blend of nature and culture, with a lake where you can rent a canoe, kayak, paddle or pedalo, or take a wine tour of Domaine Entre Deux Terres au Villaret, 1.5 km away, led by winemaker Frédéric Guilhem.

- Dinner based on local produce to delight your taste buds before a good night’s sleep in a comfortable room!
- For those who fancy it: you can canoe through La Malène/les Vignes. In the early afternoon, take our partner Aqualoisirs’ shuttle bus to La Malène to start learning about the GR736 ® Gorges et Vallée du Tarn and discover its highlights. Pick up your canoe-kayak or paddle (your choice): off you go for around 3 hours of navigation. As the miles go by, you’ll be amazed by the village of La Croze, the Détroits passage (the narrowest part of the Gorges du Tarn), the Cirque des Baumes and the Roc Aiguille!
- You disembark just before the impassable rocky chaos of the Pas de Soucy! Return to Les Vignes with the Aqualoisirs shuttle.

- After a hearty breakfast and pick-up of your picnic basket, you’re ready to hike along the Tarn for 12 kms and around 4 hours.
- Through coniferous forests and a winding path, this route takes you to the exit of the Gorges du Tarn, where the Tarn and Jonte rivers meet. Enjoy the cornices of the Causse de Sauveterre and Causse Méjean, the Cirque de Saint-Marcellin and Eglazines with their ancient troglodyte villages, and the Rocher de Cinglegros…
- You’ll arrive in awe at Le Rozier: if you’ve chosen the Tranquillité package, your luggage will be waiting for you at the hotel (partner La Malle Postale).
- After settling in at the hotel, escape to Peyreleau, Petite Cité de Caractère on the other side of the bridge. Appreciate the village’s charm, with its winding lanes, calades, beautiful homes and view from Le Triadou. Climb to the Tour for a panoramic view of the Jonte ledges.
- Dinner at the hotel.
- And for those who want to continue the journey by canoe-kayak with Aqualoisirs: it’s possible! This is the most athletic and wild part of the Gorges du Tarn.
- You’re in luck! The GR 736 ® Gorges et Vallée du Tarn trail is unique in that it can be done as a multi-activity trail.

- After breakfast, pack a picnic lunch in your rucksack and lace up your shoes for a 2nd day’s hiking.
- Following the ridges, climb up to the Causse Noir and explore its forests of Scots pine. The cliff-edge passages and steep paths make for a challenging but rewarding introduction!
- Discover the remains of the Château de Caylus, on a promontory high above the Tarn valley.
Crossing the Causse Noir, with its forests and open meadows, we finish with a beautiful descent to the river Tarn. - Arriving at Rivière sur Tarn, after following the river for two days and watching the vultures and other birds of prey soaring overhead, the Malle Postale takes you to the Vignes with the Tranquillité package.
