Point Sublime and the mysterious Grotte des Baumes Chaudes

The grandiose panorama of Point Sublime is well known. But can the same be said of the Cirque des Baumes, which it overlooks? Discover this exceptional site with your partner and enjoy the Cirque des Baumeshike. Our love advice? Opt for a duo picnic! The Grotte des Baumes Chaudes is internationally recognized by specialists as having been home to the first hunter-gatherers. Excavated by the famous Docteur Prunière between 1875 and 1883, it revealed an ossuary containing over 300 individuals. Even more exceptional: dozens of these individuals bear traces of trepanning, which we don’t know whether it was a medical or cultural act, and most survived the treatment. Today, the bones are no longer there, but theGrotte des Baumes Chaudes is still there, accessible via a path that leads down the cliff…

The legend of Pas de Soucy…

After a romanticcanoe descent, come and discover the Pas de Soucyviewpoint and read the awful legend of this place. Pas de Sou cy is one of the major tourist attractions in the Gorges du Tarn. Thanks to a specially-designed lookout, you can discover an impressive chaos in which the Tarn, less peaceful than usual, comes banging along, cutting a path between the rocks to continue its journey even further. Travelers on the water, set foot on land here, for only the Tarn crosses the Pas de Soucy. We’ve discovered the legend that here, the Roche Aiguille and the Roche Sourde agreed to stop the devil in pursuit of Sainte-Enimie. As the devil pursued the saint, who had had the audacity to chase her from her monastery, La Roche Sourde broke down and buried her. La Roche Aiguille came to the rescue and threatened to collapse, before her friend told her that she had already taken him prisoner. Unfortunately, the devil managed to escape, and it is whispered that as he left, he swore revenge…

La Baousse del Biel, an unusual hike not to be missed

How about a hike for two on theCausse Méjean overlooking the breathtaking Gorges du Tarn, and a picnic break at an exceptional viewpoint ? The ideal place to relax and enjoy time together!

The Baousse del Biel hike (“the old man’s hump” in Occitan) follows the impressive cornices of the Méjean to take in breathtaking views. After a tour of the hamlet of La Bourgarie, you’ll reach the Cirque du Bout du Monde. You’ll soon catch sight of the Baousse del Biel : a monumental triumphal arch – 40 metres high – that nature has patiently sculpted over thousands of years. But the spectacle doesn’t stop here: the ledges offer a bird’ s-eye view of the Gorges du Tarn, and the many griffon vultures. The ” bouldras ” (Occitan name) have made the large cliff you’re overlooking their nesting ground. It’s a great place to observe this majestic bird, nicknamed the ” king of the skies “. But be careful not to disturb its peace and quiet: this is its home…. This is an incredible hike, one of the most beautiful in the Gorges du Tarn, and it’s even better as a duo!
