Every year, the village of Chanac lives for 3 days to the rhythm of the Détour du Monde festival, the not-to-be-missed event for lovers of world and contemporary music in Lozère. It’s in this spirit that the festival welcomes thousands of visitors like us every year, and that’s why it offers a rich and electric program throughout the day: conferences, screenings, “sensitive” walks… many speakers are mobilized to share their thoughts through the arts in all their forms.

Even before arriving in the heart of Chanac, at the foot of the Donjon where the festival takes place, you can get into the mood by listening to the ” Rumeurs du Monde ” radio station, specially broadcast to Chanac and the surrounding area for the duration of the festivities.

We then moved on to the Place du Plo, where there’s plenty of room to stroll around: refreshment stands, but also a ” world market “, a craft and gastronomic market bringing together treasures from the four corners of the globe. Nearly forty exhibitors gather in the heart of the village each year, offering a unique opportunity in Lozère to discover exotic flavors and remarkable crafts. We were able to fill up on many local and international products!

Strolling through the village streets, we were lucky enough to come across a “ solo d’artiste ” and experience a moment of grace: attending an intimate concert with artists from far and wide, in the heart of exceptional heritage sites, often in local homes. These small, impromptu concerts are an opportunity to experience an intimate moment with musicians happy to share their art and bring their culture to life around the world.

Finally, the event we’ve been waiting for the longest: the start of the concerts on the main stage! Electric and cutting-edge, the performances follow one another to the delight of festival-goers. As the evening progressed, the Donjon, which dominates the site, was lit up in the colors of the festival. Time seems to stand still, and it’s with sadness that we leave the premises for the last concert… On the plus side, the festival lasts for a weekend, and even when it finally comes to an end, you know it’ll be back again next year! And we’ll definitely be back!
