The Aubrac village of Les Salces

The village of Les Salces, on the Aubrac plateau, is vast and sparsely populated, with just 2.2 inhabitants per km². The hamlets here are picturesque and the scenery grandiose. Pastures, meadows and numerous wooded areas are crossed by the singing boraldes.

Not only thevillageof Les Salces, but also the hamlets of Fromental, Pierrefiche and Trébatut have the look of postcards, with the added touch of authenticity. Here, bread ovens, fountains and granite crosses have been restored, bearing witness to the not-so-distant past when they were an integral part of human life. A typical heritage that can also be found in the surrounding area, particularly in Aubrac.

The Col de Bonnecombe

A must-see

Straddling the commune of Les Salces and the commune of Les Hermaux, the Col de Bonnecombe is the gateway to the Aubrac high plateau and the Route des Lacs. Here you’ll find a fishing pond, hiking trails and a winter sports resort open when weather conditions are favorable. It’s also where the transhumance takes place, every year on the Sunday closest to May 25. This traditional festival attracts large numbers of visitors every year to admire the beautifully decorated Aubrac cows.
